About Virtual Medical Education’s new online learning system

Virtual Medical Education (VME) is a continuing professional educational resource designed for Doctors. VME modules are developed to compliment clinical education in a secure, interactive environment which allows the Doctors to take control of their individual educational needs. Modules are developed at several levels and address core competencies, general education and specialist knowledge. Each module is written by health professionals that have specialised experience in the area that is encompassed within the module and each module is peer reviewed.

Textual content is supported by interactive images, tables and learning exercises, as well as animations, pictures, diagrams, video and audio. Assessment questions are randomised and presented as multiple choice, short answer, true/false, image-based questions and interactive activities.

Each module is broken down into units and each unit has a pre test and post test, as well as a list of resources and further readings. Upon completion of each unit, the pre test and post test scores are displayed.

Each Doctors can select the module that they would like to complete and can progress through each unit at their own pace. The modules are sequential and each Doctors is only permitted to advance to a subsequent section on successful completion of the preceding component. However, at any stage, the Doctors can revisit previously completed sections, making revision simple.

Upon completion of the unit, a certificate is produced that can be printed and included into a professional development portfolio. The professional development section records all modules completed, including overall scores and unit scores and the certificate.
